How Much Does Interior Design Cost in Ghana?
The Question Everyone Asks First
Almost every conversation about a new interior begins the same way: what is this going to cost? It is the right question, and you deserve an honest answer rather than a brochure rate. The honest answer is that a full luxury interior is quoted on survey — because the same room, in the same neighbourhood, can be finished a dozen different ways, and each of them carries a different cost. What we can do here is something more useful than a fake number: explain exactly what moves a budget up or down in Ghana, so you walk into the brief already understanding the levers.
Why There Is No Fixed Price Per Room
If a designer quotes you a flat rate for a living room before seeing it, they are either guessing or building a generous margin in to protect themselves against what they have not measured. Neither serves you. A 40-square-metre living room with painted walls, off-the-shelf furniture and a simple lighting layout is a fundamentally different brief from the same room with a designed coffered ceiling, a bespoke media wall, imported upholstery and a layered lighting scheme on controls. The footprint is identical; the cost is not. A real quote follows a survey and an agreed concept — only then can every element be itemised and priced.
What Actually Drives the Budget
When clients understand these drivers, the budget conversation stops feeling like negotiation and starts feeling like design decisions.
Scope
A single statement room, a full home, a reception area, or a complete office floor are entirely different commissions. Scope is the largest single lever — decide early whether you are finishing one room beautifully or carrying a whole property.
Area
Square metres matter, but not in a straight line. A larger area spreads fixed costs (survey, design, project coordination) across more space, while finish-heavy rooms — kitchens, dressing rooms, boardrooms — cost more per square metre than circulation space.
Finish Level
This is where two identical-looking rooms diverge most. Mid-range materials, high-end materials and bespoke finishes sit at very different points, and the difference compounds across ceilings, walls, joinery, flooring and lighting.
Bespoke vs Off-the-Shelf
Built-to-the-room joinery, media walls and special finishes carry both a higher cost and a longer programme than selected off-the-shelf pieces. Bespoke is often worth it — but it is a deliberate choice, not a default.
Imported Pieces and Lead Times
Imported furniture, lighting and bespoke items carry their own cost, shipping and programme. In Ghana, lead time on imported pieces is a budget item in its own right, because it shapes when rooms can be completed.
How to Plan a Number You Can Trust
The most reliable way to set a realistic budget is to be honest about it at the brief — out loud, early. Telling your designer the range you are comfortable with is not weakness; it is the single most useful thing you can do. It lets the design be built to the budget rather than discovered to be over it after concept. A good studio will design within a real number and tell you plainly where money is best spent and where it is being wasted.
After a survey and an agreed concept, you should receive a fixed, itemised quote — every element priced and visible before any work starts. That is the document that protects you. Our full approach to scoping a commission is set out under Luxury Interior Design & Fit-Out, and for whole-home work the Premium Residential Interior Package is quoted the same way.
A Word on Chasing the Lowest Number
Chasing the lowest number on a luxury interior usually costs more in the end — in re-work, in finishes that fail early, in furniture that arrives wrong. The goal is not the smallest invoice; it is the right value for a finish that lasts and a process that does not surprise you. A fixed itemised quote, agreed up front, is how you get there.
